Another noob looking for advices
Hello
My name is Paul and I am very happy to meet you all here.
Santa was generous with me this year and brought me an Thunder Tiger - Sport 40L (almost ready to fly).
Now,here comes the difficult part.I need to buy myself:
-1 engine (the producer recommend their own GP4-42)
-1 TX+RX set;
-4 regular servos
-1 12V 7Ah battery
Those are needed in the first instance. The others (starter, plugs, etc can wait for a bit).
Now my problem is what to choose on each category.Based on your experience please advice me on what brands/product should i choose.I need to add that my first name is not Gates or Abramovich so I do have certain budget limitations.
Many thanks upfront,
Paul

Hi Paul welcome to the forum

Everthing here will depend on your budget. With regards to Radio you can buy very cheap (for now) or buy something that will last you for quite a few years (from £50 to £130)

Not sure why you need a 12v 7Ah batt as these are used for flight boxes with flight panel and starters or electric fuel pumps. For starting the motor you just need a Glow stick and Chicken finger (another stick). Again motors are budget driven (from £40ish to £100)

Remember like all things you get what you pay for.. have you looked on ebay yet?

Planes are meant to crash, otherwise they'd have feathers

An engine will cost you £60-80, personally I would get an OS branded one.

As for a radio, go for Spektrum. The likes of the DX6i will be enough, if you buy a full set it will include the receiver and servos but may need to also buy some batteries and charger for it.

As Dave said, a glow stick and a chicken stick starter is all you need to start the engine. As well as the glow fuel of course Wink

A spare glow plug could be handy too.

What you really really need is a club to show you the ropes, check out http://www.bmfa.org for some local clubs to you.

Richard,David, thanks for your guidelines.
Now,normally one answer lead to other questions:
-what engine brand/model would you recommend?
-on this particular plane it can be installed any engine? i mean there is some standard size/power that i should look?
-i was thinking myself about spectrum dx6i; can you advice me about some good online stores? and what is the difference between mode 1 and 2?
-i have already found "my future" club, close to me in Birmingham.I only wait for the holidays to pass and I will contact them.
Many thanks,
Paul

OS

Yes, any engine can be installed. Something around a 40-50 size would be ideal, I'm sure people will have stuck 60s in but I think it would be a bit heavy besides the overkill.

As for what mode, I would go for mode 2. A quick search on the net and here is some info: http://www.rc-airplane-world.com/rc-tran...modes.html

As for an online shop, try Aeroshack or Robotbirds which appear in our banners Wink

I too highly recommend the SPektrum DX61 it is also compatible with many BNF planes by horizon hobby.
FOr the engine I recommend a Norvel .40 or a PAW .35 diesel both AMAZING engines.
I have the smaller norvel the mig mig .061 here is a little video.

A nose heavy plane flies badly, a tail heavy plane flies once!!!!
Oh and check out the new diesel forum i started.
