| HELP! Brushed Can motor burns up hi i have an Easy Glider Electric and a standard 400 sized brushed can motor in it. MY PROBLEM IS THIS i used the can motor supplied and it burned up and had hardly no power in it, replaced it and the same thing has happened to this 1. I can tell theres a lack of power in flight and then when i land the motor is too hot to touch. ![]() Heres my set up > LOONG-MAX TIPPLE 2300 2S 20C lipo battery from http://robotbirds.com/catalog/product_in...ts_id=1943 Turnigy 20A BRUSHED ESC speed contorller from http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store...oduct=9090 with a standard supplied 400 brushed motor - my replacement > Graupner speed 400 from https://www.modelshopleeds.co.uk/catalog...ts_id=5217 I really dont know what keeps happening ? i need help. any feedback welcome | |||

| HELP! Brushed Can motor burns up The bit of info. we are missing is what propeller you are using. The way that brushed electric motors work is means that they can draw enormous currents if they are stalled or too heavily loaded. You can use a brushed motor as a dynamo if you use external power to rotate it. Even when you are using it as a motor the dynamo effect is still there. It tries to generate a voltage in opposition to the driving voltage. As a result the actual voltage available to power the motor is much reduced. The dynamo voltage is proportional to the speed that the motor is running at. Thus if the motor is slowed by very heavy loading, or even stalled, for instance by trying to run when the propellor is touching the ground, then the dynamo voltage will be low or zero, the effective voltage will be too high, and the currents through the motor can get very large. The motor or the speed controller can then burn out. Ideally you need to measure the current that the motor is drawing. Fairly cheap meters are available from your local model shop. Plummet Plummet. | HELP! Brushed Can motor burns up Also, you are using a 6v motor, and the voltage available is right at the top of the recommended range. Try a 7.2v motor. | |||

| HELP! Brushed Can motor burns up Either your having a double dose of bad luck or the load on the motor is too high. What prop have you got on it? If youve got a smaller prop...try that on it, and as said, test the current draw, a Watt meter is a valuble tool when trying to diagnose problems like this! To repeat what others have said, requires education; to challenge it, requires brains. | |||

| HELP! Brushed Can motor burns up as another says - you are pushing it to max limit on voltage ..... you need a higher rated motor.... LiPo of 2S is 7.4V ... nominal - meaning at charged it will be significantly higher than that and will maintain 7.4V under load at least. Best to be honest would be to go to brushless .... Most of the crash is fine - it's the last mm and second that's not !.... | HELP! Brushed Can motor burns up im using the folding prop supplie with the Multiplex easyglider. i am thinking about changing it to brushless but converting it would b abit hard as there is no mounts and i will have to chop the front end off and everthing to do it, i have looked all over the web there is no tutorials of exactly how to do it, the closest there is is a picture of what their plane ended up looking like. by the way... the guy choped the front end of the plane and mounted the motor on a peice of wood and just left it like that . LOOKED HORRIBLE. i tested all the voltages going through, its right as it is suppost to be, the motor is exactly as supplied by multiplex and the same with the propeller | |||

| HELP! Brushed Can motor burns up Cutting the front of a plane to modify motor mounts etc. is a daunting prospect and one that has the hand shaking when making first cut ! But in fact it is not so bad a deal. My thinking is to follow a panel line or other that makes the join somewhat dissapear on glueing back. Pal of mine he used magnets to put front back on .. similar to hatches / canopies on many models. Here's my ME 109 during surgery : ![]() I chose to epoxy my front back on ... ![]() Unfortunately with no panel line to follow - it is visible if looked for. There's also various mount types for brushless motors incl. adaptors to fit 10mm beam mounts common with brushed. Most of the crash is fine - it's the last mm and second that's not !.... | RE: HELP! Brushed Can motor burns up Hi, I had the same problem with an Easyglider can motor. When I got the aircraft I was unimpressed by the motor and so splashed out on the lunatically expensive Multiplex upgrade. It went fine for a while but gradually strated to deliver less wallop. I returned the motor and ESC to SMC who replaced both. It took a while so, in the interim, in a fit of madness, I got a brushed motor ESC to run the original can motor with. Then that motor burned out, just like yours. SMC replaced that one too, with a Graupner 400. I've put that in, keeping the brushless in reserve, so we'll see what happens. I have firmed up the motor mounting with sticky velcro tape, to stop the motor wobbling all over the place. Just for the record, I used the folding props that were supplied by Multiplex. Fingers crossed! Don | |||

| RE: HELP! Brushed Can motor burns up Hi Burnsmoker ![]() What battery pack are you using on a speed 400? It does sound like you might be over propping it and/or over using too high a voltage for it... Too bad stupid isn't painful. Your contribution helps | |||
