OK this is not FF but RC vintage. Seemed the best place to post this. Last Sunday was the meeting at Cocklebarrow Farm for RC vintage models. Great meeting with light winds and over 60 people registered to fly. I was flying a Junior 60 made by a club mate, it is powered by an original 1950 ED 3.46 Hunter diesel engine. Attached photos show me doing a flypast and the moment of touch down. Those that know diesels may be puzzled by the fact that the engine is still running at touch down. We have converted the Hunter with a throttle and you can actually get the RPM at idle low enough to land.

Lovely stuff, Alan - nostalgia on wings!!

The downside is remembering owning an ED Hunter when it was new Exclamation

I had the Super 60 when I was a kid, sadly it got stolen from our shed before it ever flew, I was devastated, I found the old push button radio and massive geared servo's for it the other day Wink

Don€™t know why I€™m keeping them, but you just do I guess.

Nice to see and great photos Exclamation

Talking about the smell of ether, it was more like overpowering fumes! When we filled up for the first flight another club member pointed out that fuel was dripping out from underneath. The filling pipe had come off the tank and we were trying to fill the whole fus with fuel! After a lot of mopping up inside the fus the smell of ether was everywhere. After sorting out the fuel pipe all was well. We have tried throttles on a few ED Hunters and this one is the only one that goes down to a reasonable tickover. Serial number shows it is from 1950.

LOL Big Grin, Do you know I wonder if that was my attraction when I was a kid, I never could get those "Quick Starts" to start, but I kept trying for hours and always stayed happy Big Grin
