| Old Gaskets - info please I am trying to revive a rather old OS engine. I bought it in the 1970s but was little used, and has spent its time since then on a shelf. It was gummed up solid. I have soaked it in meths, dismantled and cleaned it up. Unfortunately the gaskets were too stuck/softened to remove, and so I need to replace these. I had been hoping to use sealant for this, but when I tried reassembly without the gaskets it will not rotate freely. So I need either some gaskets, or to know the thickness of the gaskets so that I might bodge something. It is an OS Max III .15 Can anyone help me? (I have tried Just Engines.) Plummet Plummet. | Old Gaskets - info please Tricky... It is an OS Max III .15, but OS now seems to refer to engines by a funny number, and so far, I have not been able to identify the funny number that corresponds to the OS Max III .15. Plummet Plummet. | Old Gaskets - info please I've just made my own gaskets by placing the engine on a flatbed scanner and printing the result on some good quality paper. I carefully cut out the shape with a scalpel on a cutting mat, starting with the bolt holes, then the larger internal hole, followed by the outline. This can be slightly over size for trimming after installation. I applied some oil to the paper and fed the gasket carefully over the back-plate first, then bolted the back plate back on. No problems for the six flights I've had so far and still going strong. The engine that is, as for me, that's another story! | |||

| Old Gaskets - info please just to ad to peters gaskets i have used an old cereal packet, simply cover one of the mating surfaces with a light oil ( 3 in 1 ) etc then press firmly on to the cereal cardboard, to get the pattern . now follow the rest of peters instructions. as the advert says simples. | Old Gaskets - info please Simples... SCREAM I am on holiday at the moment. Yesterday we were at a zoo - watching meerkats. They make very little noise, none of it like SIMPLESNow why am I here? Oh yes - I will be able to make use of paper or card for the crankcase gasket. I thing my main problem may be the head gasket. I gor a replacement engine so the OS 15 restoration is back in the queue of WIBNIs Plummet Plummet. Husband of Flappit Beginner in second Childhood. Dales Model Flying Club | |||

| Old Gaskets - info please Another material I have used for gaskets is the backing from adhesive labels, very thin and strong. Head gaskets, I have used Tin Foil in the past, not the 'kitchen' variety, from take away containers. Tony I don't have crashes, just mid-airs with the planet............. | |||
