| noobie, wildthing and futaba 6ex 2.4ghz Hi peeps, i am a total noobie at this lark. put together my wildthing and threw over £200 off a hillside!! Yes i was a bit nervous as throwing £200+ off a hillside is not normally something i like to do. anyhoo, i also have a swift II which is amazing and flies beautifully but the wildthing is a different story, here is where my problems start. 1st when i throw the wildthing into the air it is VERY twitchy when i pull back to go up it goes up quite nicely but when i push up to go down it shoots down like a rocket, 2nd when going into the wind its like porpoising up and down so much so that it is really difficult to control. I have the cog level with the servos which is where i thought it should be. This might be really easy to fix for someone who knows about this sort of thing but as i know pretty much nothing it is really doing my head in, hence i am here asking for any help on how to get this thing flying better. Look at my last video on youtube and you can see my dads wildthing flying great and mine grounded due to these problems. still, we had a great day with the swift II and mini swift so not all was lost http://www.youtube.com/user/Djsp01 If it won't fly you're not throwing hard enough. | |||

| noobie, wildthing and futaba 6ex 2.4ghz Welcome to RcTalk ![]() Maybe you are over controlling the elevator, try setting up low rates on your transmitter or reducing the elevator travel. Adding expo may also help. Too bad stupid isn't painful. Your contribution helps | |||

| noobie, wildthing and futaba 6ex 2.4ghz I recently flew my WildThing for the first time (having built it 3 years ago!). I followed the instructions for control throws (here assuming 46" model http://sas2.webs.com/w46m.PDF ) and then added -30% expo and it flew great. Apparently its quite critical that the model balances between 120 and 126mm back from the leading edge of the wing at the fuselage side. This often requires a little noseweight. | |||

| noobie, wildthing and futaba 6ex 2.4ghz ahh +100% expo on channel 2 will certainly cause problems... I have an earlier version of that radio and its quite confusing when you're not used to it. I'll go find the manual for the exa and see if its got any screenshots I can use.. | |||

| noobie, wildthing and futaba 6ex 2.4ghz Hmmm yeah its not so useful. When cycling through the programming screens you will get to this one: Attached Image: ![]() 3.53 KB which is the Dual Rate setup. Assuming you've set the range of movement correctly using the EPA screen, you can then use the dual rate screen to set p a switch to give you a softer movement of say 70% of that. Pressing select again gives you this screen: Attached Image: ![]() 3.24 KB which (confusingly) is the same but with that little + and - symbol you should set this for -30% for both channel 1 and 2. (on Futaba sets negative values for expo give you softer control in the centre of the sticks while on JR/spektrum sets positive expo does the same thing). If you have 100% positive expo on channel two it certainly would make for a wild ride! Remember if you dont want to play with dual rates then leave those at 100% for each channel and just adjust the EPA to get the movements suggested in the manual, the model should fly fine with those and the expo. Good luck! Let us know how you get on. | |||
