Hello I have a big high wing trainer & after a few flights I now fly 3d planes. However I'm young & play PS3, xbox 360 & pc games alot. They say young ones pick it up fast. Flying is not as difficult as some make out. I even have a friend with a real pilots license & he is thicker than 2 short planks. Look out for a nice deal on a super cub or something. Nitro planes are messy I'm going electric route from now on.
£100 is a tight budget.I managed to get Vmar Apache & all the gear for £100 from ebay though.

Hi Jiffy.

Yeah LiPos make their own oxygen when they go wrong.

If you fully charge a LiPo in the cold, then it gets a lot warmer, like it might in a metal box - the difference between night and day temps might be enough, the LiPo is then effectively over-charged. But it would had to have been fully charged and in the box for that to be the cause.

Likewise if you fully discharge a LiPo in the warm and then put it in the cold the voltage will drop further, over-discharging it and maybe making it puff. This might also cause a short when it's warms-up again.

A shorted balance wire might have done it - I've also seen that it's very easy for the pins to pull-out the balance plugs and short-out. That may have been the case with keeping the battery in foam.

I keep mine in a cardboard box for ease of carrying but they are charged right in front of me while I'm sat at the computer.
They are also always kept at store voltage and in the house so the temperature is roughly the same all the time.

Charging them in the warm and then taking them out into the cold is OK. (Voltage drops slightly). Only they won't perform until they have warmed-up a bit from use and the voltage is back to normal.
