Hi.
Here's a pic of my latest project. It started life as a vintage Jetex model, a Savage Soarer 1965. I managed to find 25mm dia ducted fan with 32grams of static thrust to use. I'm advised thats the equivalant of a Jetex 150.
However, building the fuz first gave me time to think about the wing construction and airfoil selection. Having 30 years of rc thermal soaring experiance (no freeflight) I decided to use a carbon fibre tube as a main spar, and the change the airfoil to a thinned MH32 an F3B section.
As a final cop-out I made it R/C rudder assist. This is so I can fly it at my club field. A bit small for freeflight.
It's come out a bit heavy 120 grams but I'm not good at wood selection and building light. However I'm hoping that I can learn. I haven't flown it yet, I don't like the cold weather.
I'll let you know as to how it flies if interested.

Cheers

Hey,
I have recently inherited over 180 old Aero Modeller magazines from my Grandad and he wanted them to be sold and any money made to be split between myself, my brother and our cousin.

At some time and effort I have compiled a list of the magazines that I have.

Ones with model plans are listed.

Looking to sell individually or as groups...

Any interest?

Any questions just ask they will eventually end up on Ebay
Here is an Excel Doc with the listed magazines

Well - I needed to tame down a monster motor on a Parkjet. A model that is sold ARF with a ~150W motor .... often over powered into the 300+ region.

I put together the kit version and wanted to make sure I was well powered !

with a 3700kv 450 heli motor ..... 5x5 prop .... 3S LiPo ............

On test run - it hit 54A and 540 Watts !! AWESOME but way outside the bounds of sanity on such a small machine.

I swapped out the motor for a motor I had spare .. 1800kv ..... this produced 105W on 8.6A .... and appeared to have enough oooomph !

Well maiden showed it to be underpowered ... we basically couldn't get it to pull away from the strong hand launch.

So how to re-mount the big motor but limit it to sensible levels ?

EPA ! So simple ............ as long as the ESC is set normally with full range, you can then treat the ESC like a servo.

Having refitted the ESC and heli motor ... I set the EPA on TX to be 0% on the high half. Ran up the motor and found much more sensible readings on ther wattmeter ....... 180W, 18A ....

So I upped the EPA % until I got 25A draw and approx. 280W.

I now have a machine that I can up the power level later IF it survives !

The only question that remains ............

If a 1800kv motor is given free headroom to rpm's ...

Let's say a 3700kv on same prop but higher power ... what rpm when limited back to just under half amps ? (54 back to 25)

OK - tests run ...

1800kv on a 3S 1800mAh 25C good pack : 16,670 rpm full range WOT

3700kv on same 3S pack, with upper throttle EPA at 30% : 21,060 rpm full stick throttle.

I'm not sure how the % works and if it relates directly to motor speed ... but lets assume it does ...

I have EPA 100 - 30 instead of 100-100 ....
rpm of 21,060 = 100-30 ... so maybe 21,060/130 x 200 ? is max WOT full range ? .... 32,400rpm

I am quite new to the world of rc planes and have recently bought a used Multiplex Merlin of eBay. I have set all the plane up and got it working with the transmitter I bought separately.

I am really looking forward to my first flight but I still need one last thing, a Lipo charger.

The battery I have is a "multiplex li-batt fx 3/1-450" or thats what it has on the label. The problem is what's the easiest and cheapest way of charging it. I have looked all over the net but its hard to know what to go far.

To add to the problem the battery uses Multiplex power and balance plugs which don't seem to be on any of the charger out there. Do I have to buy extra converter cables?

Please help, I am its driving me insane!

So he takes the chief for a walk in the forest. He points to a tree and says to the chief, "This is a tree."
The chief looks at the tree and grunts, "Tree."
The Priest is pleased with the response. They walk a little further and he points to a rock and says, "This is a rock."
Hearing this, the chief looks and grunts, "Rock."

The Priest was really getting enthusiastic about the results when he hears a rustling in the bushes. As they peek over the top, he sees a couple of natives in the midst of heavy sexual activity.

The Priest is really flustered and quickly responds, "Man riding a bike."

The chief looks at the couple briefly, pulls out his blowgun and kills them both..
The Priest goes ballistic and yells at the chief that he has spent years teaching the tribe how to be civilized and be kind to each other, so how could he kill these people in cold blood that way?

A man was being tailgated by a stressed-out woman on a busy boulevard. Suddenly, the light turned yellow, just in front of him. He did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection.

The tailgating woman hit the roof, and the horn, screaming in frustration as she missed her chance to get through the intersection with him. As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up. He took her to the police station where she was searched, fingerprinted, photographed, and placed in a cell.

After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door. She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects.

He said, "I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping the guy off in front of you, and cussing a blue streak at him. I noticed the 'Choose Life' license plate holder, the 'What Would Jesus Do' bumper sticker, the 'Follow Me to Sunday School' bumper sticker and the chrome-plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk. Naturally, I assumed you had stolen the car."

There comes a time when a woman just has to trust her husband... for example...

A wife comes home late at night and quietly opens the door to her bedroom. From under the blanket she sees four legs instead of two.

She reaches for a baseball bat and starts hitting the blanket as hard as she can. Once she's done, she goes to the kitchen to have a drink. As she enters, she sees her husband there, reading a magazine.

"Hi Darling", he says, "Your parents have come to visit us, so l let them stay in our bedroom. Did you say 'hello'?”

An Arab Sheik was admitted to Hospital for heart surgery, but prior to the surgery, the doctors needed to store his blood in case the need arose. As the gentleman had a rare type of blood, it couldn't be found locally, so, the call went out across the country.

Finally a Scot was located who had a similar blood type. The Scot willingly donated his blood for the Arab.

After the surgery, the Arab sent the Scotsman as appreciation for giving his blood, a new BMW, diamonds & cash.

A couple of days later, once again, the Arab had to go through a corrective surgery. His doctor telephoned the Scotsman who was more than happy to donate his blood again.

After the second surgery, the Arab sent the Scotsman a thank-you card & a jar of candies.

The Scotsman was shocked that the Arab this time did not reciprocate his kind gesture as he had anticipated.

He phoned the Arab & asked him: "I thought you would be generous again, that you would give me a BMW, diamonds & money... But you only gave me a thank-you card & a jar of candies".

To this the Arab replied: "Aye, but I now have Scottish blood in my veins"...

It was April and the Aboriginals in a remote part of Northern Australia asked their new elder if the coming winter was going to be cold or mild.

Since he was an elder in a modern community he had never been taught the old secrets. When he looked at the sky he couldn’t tell what the winter was going to be like.

Nevertheless, to be on the safe side, he told his tribe that the winter was indeed going to be cold and that the members of the tribe should collect firewood to be prepared.

But being a practical leader, after several days he had an idea.

He walked out to the telephone booth on the highway, called the Bureau of Meteorology and asked, ‘Is the coming winter in this area going to be cold?’

The meteorologist responded, ‘It looks like this winter is going to be quite cold.’

So the elder went back to his people and told them to collect even more wood in order to be prepared.

A week later he called the Bureau of Meteorology again. ‘Does it still look like it is going to be a very cold winter?’

The meteorologist again replied, ‘Yes, it’s going to be a very cold winter.’

The elder again went back to his community and ordered them to collect every scrap of firewood they could find.

Two weeks later the elder called the Bureau again. ‘Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?’ he asked.

‘Absolutely,’ the man replied. ‘It’s looking more and more like it is going to be one of the coldest winters ever.’

‘How can you be so sure?’ the elder asked.

The weatherman replied, ‘Our satellites have reported that the Aboriginals in the north are collecting firewood like crazy, and that’s always a sure sign.’
